University of Tulsa scholarship Recipient Gives $20,000 to Former School
TULSA, OK MAY 19, 2014—When Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences (TSAS) Senior JD Wessinger received the Presidential Scholarship from the University of Tulsa, he and his parents were excited, but the full scholarship that covers tuition as well as room and board came with one question. What to do with the money that his father, Mike Wessinger, had saved for college? JD decided that he would like to take part of those funds and help to recognize the teachers that had prepared him for college, and to remember a teacher that had meant a lot to him that passed away this year.
JD will donate $20,000 to the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences Foundation for Academic Excellence to begin the “Zack Roddy Great Teachers Endowment” that will fund stipends for teachers at the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences. The Foundation has committed to raise funds to match the donation this year and to add funds in the future to the principle.
"I wanted to give back in a way that would have a lasting impact to those people that helped me along the way" said JD. As part of recognizing those that helped along the way, the endowment is named after former TSAS band director Zach Roddy.
